Product Overview

β-Hydroxybutyrate Dehydrogenase (HBD) is a membrane-bound lipid-requiring enzyme that catalyzes the dehydrogenation of β-hydroxybutyrate to acetoacetate. This enzyme plays an important role in organisms, participating in the β-oxidation pathway and ketone body metabolism. It has significant application value in areas such as alcohol metabolism, the diagnosis and monitoring of ketoacidosis, and research on energy metabolism-related diseases. HBDH is a core enzyme raw material for blood ketone testing and can be used in the development and large-scale preparation of β-hydroxybutyrate reagents.

Key Features

High specific activity

Excellent stability

Three batches of samples were incubated at 42 °C for 7 days, with residual activity maintained above 90%.

Low batch variation, high result reliability

The batch-to-batch variations in solid specific activity and protein specific activity of three batches of enzyme powder are all less than 2%.

FAQ

Q: Can this enzyme be used for both blood ketone test strips (BKM) and clinical chemistry analyzer kits?

A: Yes, it is compatible with both. Our recombinant beta-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (β-HBDH) works for electrochemical blood ketone strips (for handheld ketone meters) as well as enzymatic colorimetric kits for clinical chemistry analyzers. Its catalytic activity and substrate specificity have been fully verified for both applications. You may select the suitable enzyme formulation according to your end products.

Q: What are the coenzyme dependence and specificity of HBDH?

A: This product is NAD+-dependent β-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase. It specifically recognizes D-β-hydroxybutyrate with no cross-reactivity toward acetoacetic acid, acetone, lactic acid, glucose and other common sugars, effectively preventing false positive results. It is well suited for electrochemical strips, clinical chemistry analyzers and POCT platforms, delivering accurate and reliable test results.

Q: What about the thermal stability and processing tolerance of HBDH?

A: Optimized via molecular engineering, this enzyme features excellent thermal stability. It remains stable in liquid form below 50°C. As lyophilized powder, it retains over 95% activity after 7 days of storage at 37°C. When stored at -25°C ~ -15°C for 12 months, its activity stays above 90%. It tolerates a pH range of 5.0-10.0 and fits commonly used buffer systems for clinical testing.

Q: Is this enzyme produced by recombinant expression? How is its batch-to-batch consistency?

A: Yes. Our β-HBDH is manufactured using an E. coli recombinant expression system. Compared with traditionally extracted native enzymes, it achieves higher batch-to-batch consistency and purity. Each batch undergoes strict activity testing and kinetic parameter verification to ensure stable performance during your mass production.

Q: Can you provide activity assay protocols and technical support?

A: We provide complete technical documents, including the standard operating procedure (SOP) for activity assay (NADH spectrophotometric method at 340 nm), definition of enzyme activity units, reagent formulas and calculation methods.
