Background Overview

In recent years, the development of synthetic biology has overcome the disadvantages of traditional methods such as natural extraction and chemical synthesis. It significantly reduces production costs while offering better biocompatibility, enhanced efficacy, and customizable products, accelerating product upgrades and reshaping industry competition.

Synthetic biology is now widely used in pharmaceuticals, aesthetics, agriculture, food, feed, energy, and other fields. Scalable manufacturing is the core to maintaining product competitiveness as synthetic biology moves from laboratory research to market commercialization.

With years of deep expertise in the large-scale manufacturing of specialty enzymes and high-purity proteins for biopharmaceutical applications, Hzymes has established full-chain production capabilities—from lab to industrial scale—through process innovation and extensive project experience. Equipped with a comprehensive quality system, the company can achieve pharmaceutical-grade protein production at batch scales of tens of kilograms, meeting the core needs of industrial-scale synthetic biology.

Breakthrough Technological Innovations

Large-Scale Manufacturing of High-Purity, Low-Cost Proteins
Process Innovation and Industrial Application

The "T20+ | China Innovative Drug Future Pathway Conference" (T20+ Conference), a flagship event in the field of innovative pharmaceuticals in China, gathered global expertise and over 300 industry leaders, with 21 sub-forums focusing on key topics in drug innovation.

At the “Innovations in Aesthetics and Skincare Science” sub-forum, Professor Guangyu Yang, Chairman of Hzymes, delivered a keynote presentation. He elaborated on the recombinant protein CDMO service platform, the role of static adsorption processes in enhancing production capacity, innovations in process design for cost reduction and quality improvement, and the use of E. coli and yeast systems in medical aesthetic protein production.

He introduced the comprehensive hardware infrastructure, quality system, and technical innovations supporting large-scale recombinant protein manufacturing, aiming to achieve the goals of “high purity, low cost, and industrial scalability.”

Hzymes focuses on the large-scale production of specialty enzymes and high-purity proteins for biopharmaceutical applications. Through process innovation and rich project experience, it serves areas such as diagnostics, aesthetics, synthetic biology, and aesthetic proteins. The recombinant protein CDMO service platform is equipped with comprehensive production equipment and facilities, experienced project teams, and a robust quality system to meet the industry’s high standards for production and product quality.

Process Innovation and Application of Recombinant Proteins for Industrial-Scale Synthetic Biology

The 7th CMC-CHINA Pharmaceutical Industry Expo was held from August 1–2, 2025, in Suzhou, under the theme “Breakthrough・Symbiosis・Globalization,” aiming to build a comprehensive ecosystem for pharmaceutical industry collaboration.

Hzymes showcased its recombinant protein CDMO service platform, biosynthetic GLP-1 (29-mer peptide), and other biopharmaceutical products, attracting many new and returning customers for in-depth interactions.

During the event, Product Director Dongcheng Xie delivered a featured presentation, highlighting key innovations such as:

  • AI-driven protein design,
  • A scalable production platform for fermentation, purification, and lyophilization,
  • Replacing traditional column affinity chromatography with nickel precipitation,
  • Efficient endotoxin removal and ultra-sensitive detection technologies.

These breakthroughs address bottlenecks in the industrialization of recombinant proteins, enabling high-quality, low-cost production and advancing the application of synthetic biology in both pharmaceutical and medical aesthetic fields.

At this event, Hzymes was honored with the “Rising Star in Synthetic Biomanufacturing” award, in recognition of its outstanding specialty enzyme and large-scale manufacturing services.

Hzymes’ One-Stop Synthetic Biology Solutions
Recombinant Protein CDMO Platform

With its robust infrastructure and quality management system for large-scale recombinant protein manufacturing, Hzymes offers extensive experience in product development and industrial production.

The company provides both GMP and non-GMP scale-up manufacturing services, featuring flexible fermentation platforms of 5L–50L–500L–5T–10T–30T–60T, various chromatography systems, and lyophilization equipment in multiple scales (0.4–0.5–2–10–20).

With a well-established quality system and rigorous control over production processes, Hzymes enforces strict release criteria for intermediates and final products to ensure batch-to-batch consistency. This fully supports production across small-scale, pilot-scale, and industrial-scale stages.

The company has already achieved successful deliveries of high-quality medical aesthetic proteins using E. coli intracellular expression systems and Pichia pastoris secretion expression systems.

Recombinant Factor C Endotoxin Detection Kit

Hzymes’ Recombinant Factor C Endotoxin Detection Kit utilizes genetically engineered recombinant Factor C protein that binds to endotoxins and activates, cleaving a fluorescent substrate to release a fluorescent group. The fluorescence intensity is proportional to the endotoxin concentration, enabling precise quantification.

Compared to traditional LAL reagents, the recombinant Factor C method avoids false positives caused by β-glucans from yeast sources, while offering high sensitivity and accuracy in quantifying endotoxins. This makes it highly suitable for medical aesthetic proteins, medical devices, and related applications.

To handle various sample types, Hzymes’ kit includes a range of anti-interference dispersants to ensure accurate detection even in complex sample matrices.

Biosynthetic GLP-1 (29-mer Peptide)

Hzymes has developed GLP-1 (29-mer peptide) using genetic engineering via recombinant E. coli expression, followed by enzymatic cleavage, chromatographic purification, and lyophilization to obtain a freeze-dried powder.

Compared to chemical synthesis, biosynthetic production enables continuous, large-scale manufacturing, significantly reducing raw material costs and offering distinct economic advantages.

This approach yields a high-purity, low-impurity, high-content, and scalable semaglutide intermediate (29-mer peptide) with purity exceeding 98%, positioning it as a cost-effective, high-quality solution for peptide therapeutics.
