Background

In the world of molecular biology, PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) has become a foundational tool, prized for its sensitivity and precision. But with great sensitivity comes a significant challenge—contamination. Even the smallest trace of nucleic acid aerosol can cause false-positive results, leading to wasted time, repeated experiments, and questionable data integrity.

To combat this persistent issue, UDG (Uracil-DNA Glycosylase) has long been a trusted solution. And now, Hzymes’ Thermolabile UDG Enzyme takes that trust one step further—with complete thermal inactivation, enhanced stability, and improved compatibility across molecular applications. Let’s explore how this innovative product helps researchers achieve clean, reliable, and reproducible PCR results.

Currently, there are two main types of UDG enzymes available on the market: one derived from E. coli or Bacillus subtilis (standard UDG), and the other from psychrophilic marine bacteria (thermolabile UDG). Thermolabile UDG can be completely inactivated with a short incubation at relatively low temperatures.

Hzymes has launched a new product – Thermolabile UDG Enzyme – which can be fully inactivated at temperatures above 50°C. This effectively avoids the residual activity sometimes seen with standard UDG after heat inactivation, which could degrade dU-containing amplicons.

Broad Applications Across Molecular Workflows

The versatility of Thermolabile UDG makes it a powerful tool for various nucleic acid detection platforms, including:

  • PCR / qPCR – Enhanced reliability in routine diagnostics and research
  • RT-PCR / RT-qPCR – Contamination-free workflows for RNA detection
  • RT-LAMP – Isothermal amplification with superior contamination control
  • Lyophilized Diagnostic Kits – Glycerol-free formulation ideal for freeze-dried formats and field applications

No matter the platform, Hzymes’ enzyme ensures consistent, accurate, and contamination-free results.
